Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has declared its strong resolve to attract $1 billion in investments in quantum computing by 2029, scripting a Hitech City-type success story at its new futuristic riverside capital Amaravati, with the launch of the Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV).

Spread over 50 acres allotted by the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), AQV is the dream project of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, aimed at positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leader in one of the world’s most sought-after emerging technologies. The initiative is aligned with the National Quantum Mission (NQM) and envisions an ultra-modern campus, featuring a 133-qubit quantum computer, creation of over 5,000 jobs, and support for 100+ startups by 2030. The State is eyeing investments of $500 million within a year and $1 billion by January 1, 2029, supported by a Rs1,000-crore fund to build the quantum ecosystem.

The foundation stone for AQV was laid by the CM in the presence of Union Minister of State for Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Saturday. AQV is envisioned as India’s first comprehensive quantum ecosystem, integrating quantum hardware deployment, software development, algorithm optimisation, and world-class talent nurturing within a single campus. Subject to regulatory approvals, the project plans to host an IBM Quantum System Two, which would make Amaravati home to India’s most advanced IBM quantum computer currently available.

After the ceremony, Naidu said on X that the event was not merely symbolic but marked India’s bold declaration of quantum leadership from AP, bringing industry, academia, and government onto a single platform. He announced that 30 companies under the Amaravati Quantum Valley would soon begin operations from Medha Towers in Vijayawada, while MoUs have been signed with 15 more companies. Four landmark initiatives were also announced by leaders from industry and academia: TCS Quantum Cloud Services, the Quantum Talent Hub, the Quantum Reference Facility (India’s first and the world’s fourth), and Quantum-Safe Application Q-AWARE 2.0. He expressed confidence that under PM’s vision for the National Quantum Mission, AQV would accelerate India’s journey towards Atmanirbhar Viksit Bharat. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Jitendra Singh said AQV was aligned with India’s Rs6,000-crore National Quantum Mission, adding that it represented the bold, integrated approach required for India to emerge as a global quantum superpower.
